Year 4 have been reading and clapping ta, ti-ti and rest cards. In groups of three, children compose a four-bar rhythm in 4/4 for body percussion, choosing a sound for each line (stamp, pat, clap or click), write it in stick notation on a group sheet, and rehearse until they can play it twice through without stopping. When they are ready, they record the performance as a voice recording in Seesaw, with a photo of the group sheet alongside, tagged to all three children's journals. Journals are class-only, the recordings are audio with no faces, and the teacher does not share these posts with families. After school the teacher listens to each recording against its sheet to assess whether the rhythm was performed as written, as she did last year when the same end-of-unit record was made on the class iPad's Voice Memos app and saved to the music folder.
