Reception have read Anna Llenas' The Colour Monster, in which the monster sorts his muddled feelings into jars: yellow for happy, blue for sad, red for angry, black for scared and green for calm. The teacher has made a Seesaw activity with the five jars and six picture scenes about story characters, such as a boy whose tower has been knocked down and a girl blowing out birthday candles, so the children talk about characters rather than their own lives. Working with an adult in a small group, each child drags every scene into a jar and says why, and the adult asks questions such as 'Could he feel two things at once?'. The children submit their pages to their journals, and the teacher looks through them after the session as she used to look at photos of the finished card sorts.
