Year 9 Spanish are working on free time and the preterite. The teacher has vetted a five-minute vlog from an education channel for Spanish learners, in which a teenager in Madrid talks about her weekend, and shows it on the board from YouTube with comments hidden. The class watches once for gist, then a second time to answer eight questions in Spanish on a printed worksheet, covering where she went, who with and what she thought of it. The teacher goes through the answers, drawing out useful phrases such as fui al cine and lo pasé bomba. Students use those phrases to tell a partner about their own last weekend, then write five sentences in their books.
