Year 9 met Pythagoras' theorem last lesson and need to see it applied before independent practice. The teacher shows a 12-minute worked-solutions video from a well-known UK maths revision channel on the board, pausing between its three problems: the hypotenuse of a triangle with shorter sides of 6 cm and 8 cm, a shorter side with an answer rounded to one decimal place, and a ladder leaning against a wall. At each pause students copy the diagram and the key lines of working into their books, and the teacher adds one comment on the step students most often get wrong, such as subtracting instead of adding when finding the hypotenuse. The second half of the lesson is ten questions in books, marked together at the end.
