Year 8 keep their times tables sharp with a low-stakes check every fortnight, and this one opens a 50-minute lesson on ratio. Students answer 30 mixed questions from the 4 to the 12 times tables on a Microsoft Form in ten minutes, each working at their own speed. The teacher has switched off the quiz setting that shows results after submission, so, as with the printed grid the department used before, nobody sees a score during the lesson and there is no class leaderboard. After the lesson the teacher reads each student's total from the responses, in the same way they used to mark the grids, and notes anyone to invite to a lunchtime catch-up. The rest of the lesson is ratio work in books.
