Year 2 have heard extracts from Samuel Pepys's diary, including the night he buried his parmesan cheese and wine in the garden to save them from the fire. Each child writes their own diary entry as a Londoner on 2 September 1666, describing what they saw from Pudding Lane to the river, and types it onto a single page in Book Creator. Last year the class typed the same entry in Microsoft Word on the laptops; the school now uses Book Creator on tablets. The teacher marks the entries against the class success criteria, a date at the top, the past tense and at least two things they saw, and prints the pages, and children draw a border of flames round their printed page in crayon before it goes on the Great Fire display outside the classroom.
