Year 2 are learning that most living things live in habitats to which they are suited. The teacher has made a Microsoft Whiteboard board with four habitat photos, woodland, pond, ocean and desert, and twelve animal pictures including a badger, a woodlouse, a frog, a heron, a clownfish, a crab and a camel, and each group opens its own copy on a school tablet. Groups drag every animal into a habitat, then add a sticky note for four of them giving one reason, such as 'webbed feet for swimming' or 'hump stores fat'. The teacher circulates and asks the questions that make groups think again, such as where the frog lays its eggs, and the lesson ends with each group telling the class one reason it is sure of.
