The teacher shows an extract from John Reed's Ten Days that Shook the World (1919), his eyewitness account of the Bolshevik seizure of power, with Lenin's approving introduction. Students rate its reliability for explaining why the Bolsheviks took power on a Mentimeter scale from 1 to 5 and add a one-line reason as open text. The teacher reads the distribution and the anonymous reasons, and if most ratings rest on Reed being an eyewitness, re-teaches provenance: his sympathy with the Bolsheviks, when he wrote, and why Lenin endorsed the book. Students then rate again, and the teacher puts the two distributions side by side and asks a student whose rating moved to explain what changed it.
