In the summer term, before the Personal Investigation begins, Year 12 study Komar and Melamid's People's Choice project, in which the artists commissioned opinion polls and painted each country's "most wanted" picture. Over three lessons each student starts a painting in Procreate on the department iPads. During the five days of the school's summer show, each student duplicates the canvas every morning and paints two rival next stages from the same starting point, for example a warmer palette in one and a figure in the foreground in the other, and both versions go on a screen with a Mentimeter code beside them. Visitors vote anonymously between the two, with no names or personal details collected; each afternoon the winner becomes the base for the next day and the losing version is kept. At the end of the week the show displays the chosen path beside every version visitors turned down, with the time-lapse replay, and each student writes 300 words on what the audience chose, what they would have chosen themselves, and who they now think the author is.
