A Year 12 RE class and a partner sixth form hold an Oxford-style debate on the motion "This house would legalise assisted dying", a live question in Parliament since the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill was introduced in 2024. The teams are mixed, with two speakers from each school on each side, and they prepare together in a planning call hosted by both teachers the week before. Every student votes for, against or undecided in a Mentimeter poll before the debate and again at the end, so the winner is the side that changes the most votes, and every student who is not speaking prepares at least one question from the floor drawing on Kantian ethics, utilitarianism or religious teaching on the sanctity of life. All calls are hosted by both teachers on school Teams accounts, whole class to whole class. After the result, each student writes a paragraph on the argument that changed the most minds and why.
