Year 12 are studying Die digitale Welt, and the textbook statistics on German teenagers are several years old. Through a partnership the school has set up, the two teachers agree a joint anonymous survey in Microsoft Forms, with twelve questions in German and English about hours online, apps used for school work and attitudes to phones in school, collecting no names or personal details. Both classes answer it, and over four lessons each UK student takes one question, charts the Leipzig and UK results side by side and writes a 250-word analysis in German explaining the differences. In a staff-hosted Teams call on school accounts, the UK students present their findings in German and the Leipzig class responds, often correcting the explanation, for example on how phone rules differ between German states. Students revise their analysis in light of what they heard and combine the findings into a co-authored German PowerPoint report, which both classes receive.
