This is a practice piece ahead of the GCSE free composition, not the assessed submission, so peer feedback in the lesson is fine. The teacher plays two trailer cues and draws out how composers build tension: a string ostinato, a rising brass line, a woodwind countermelody. Over two lessons each student writes a 90-second cue in Logic Pro (or GarageBand on Macs without it) using strings, woodwind and brass, with a clear build and release, entering parts on the MIDI keyboard or in the piano roll and trying different instruments and registers for each line. They add reverb to place the ensemble in a hall and set levels so the melody sits above the accompaniment. At the end students swap headphones with a neighbour, who notes one moment where the texture works and one where a part is masked.
