Students reread Act 1 Scene 5, where Lady Macbeth calls on the spirits to 'unsex me here', and the sleepwalking scene in Act 5 Scene 1. The teacher has set up a Mentimeter Scales question with eight quotations, four from each scene, including 'Look like th' innocent flower, / But be the serpent under't' and 'Out, damned spot! out, I say!', and each student rates how far Lady Macbeth is in control of herself and events in each line. As the ratings come in, the board plots the class average for each quotation, and the teacher stops on any line that sits near the middle of the scale or that students say they rated very differently. Pairs then defend a rating for one contested quotation using a second line from the same scene, and the class agrees where the turning point in her arc falls.
