The teacher introduces Happisburgh on the Norfolk coast with photos and cliff-retreat figures, then sets out three Shoreline Management Plan options: hold the line, managed realignment and no active intervention. Students vote on Mentimeter, and the teacher uses the spread to assign stakeholder roles (resident, farmer, district council, Environment Agency) so that every option has someone arguing for it. Students post one argument from their role in the matching Padlet column, and the teacher reads the strongest from each column aloud before a re-vote. The lesson closes with the teacher showing the policy in the current plan and asking why it differs from the class result, if it does.
