Half the class works with monthly mean temperature and rainfall for Lisbon and Washington DC, both near 39°N, and the other half with Cape Town and Buenos Aires, both near 34°S, each student using their own tab of a shared Google Sheet. Students make a climate graph for each city, with rainfall as bars and temperature as a line, and identify three differences, such as Lisbon's dry summers against Washington's wetter summers and colder winters. They post the three differences to the Padlet column for their pair of cities. The teacher projects the wall, groups repeated observations and leads a discussion of why two cities on the same latitude differ, drawing out west and east coasts of continents, prevailing winds and ocean currents.
