Year 9 French are preparing for the translation questions they will meet at GCSE. The teacher gives twelve sentences, each hiding a trap: "Il pleut des cordes", "J'ai la flemme de faire mes devoirs", "Actuellement, ma sœur travaille dans une librairie", "Mon frère est très sensible", "Ce portable coûte les yeux de la tête" and seven more. Students first write their own English version, then ask Copilot Chat on school-approved accounts, with no personal details, to translate each sentence, and check both versions against the school's online bilingual dictionary. Wherever the three disagree, they ask Copilot to explain its choice and test that explanation against the dictionary's examples, recording whether Copilot caught the trap, translated word for word, or defended a meaning the context does not allow. The lesson closes with the class comparing results and listing the trap types where their own version was more accurate.
