Year 8 are starting inputs and outputs. Pairs open a teacher-provided program in the MakeCode simulator that responds to button A, button B, both buttons together and a shake, each with a different LED pattern, and one that also plays a tone. The investigation sheet asks pairs to try every input, record the output, then answer reasoning questions: which block handles both buttons, what the forever loop is doing, and what would happen if the two button handlers were swapped. Pairs write their prediction for that last question, swap the handlers and run the program to check. On days when the class set of boards is charged and complete, the same sheet is done on the physical micro:bits; next lesson, pairs write their own handlers from scratch.
