The teacher sets up one Microsoft Whiteboard with four theme areas, la nourriture, la famille, le collège and les loisirs, and gives each student two French words to add as sticky notes with their initials. Most words have a clear home, but some are deliberately open to argument, such as le goûter, la cantine, la natation and le dîner, and each of these is given to three or four different students. Students place their notes in the area they think fits, and as the board fills the teacher points out where copies of the same word have landed in different areas. The students responsible explain their choice, in French where they can ('la cantine, c'est au collège, mais c'est aussi la nourriture'), and the class agrees where each word could reasonably go.
