The teacher sets up a Padlet in map format and gives each student a named hazard event, such as the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake, the 2015 Nepal earthquake, the 2010 Eyjafjallajökull eruption, the 2022 Pakistan floods or the 2014 Somerset Levels floods. Students find the location, drop a pin on it, colour the post by hazard type and add a one-line summary of what happened. As the pins arrive the teacher projects the map and asks the class what they notice, and clusters of earthquake and volcano pins around the Pacific Ring of Fire soon appear. Any pin on the wrong continent is moved by its author once the class has helped check the location.
