The teacher builds a Desmos card sort with twelve cards: 1/2, 2/4, 3/6 and 4/8, then 1/3, 2/6, 3/9 and 4/12, then 3/4, 6/8, 9/12 and 15/20, with some cards drawn as shaded fraction bars instead of digits. Pupils join with a class code and drag the cards into three groups of equal value. While they work, the teacher watches the dashboard, which shows each pupil's groups, and notices, for example, several pupils putting 2/6 with 2/4 because both have a 2 on top. The teacher pauses the class, shows an anonymised sort with that mistake, and asks pupils to prove with the fraction bars which group 2/6 belongs in before they finish.
