Year 2 have been learning to build expanded noun phrases such as 'the tall, twisty trees'. The teacher shows the spread from Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are where the forest grows in Max's bedroom, and each group of three writes one sentence describing the forest on its group tablet, posting it to a Padlet wall set to private and projected on the board, with colour names for groups rather than children's names. When every sentence is up, the class reads them side by side, and the teacher picks two to improve together, asking which adjectives tell us most about the trees and the vines. Groups then edit their own post in place, adding or swapping an adjective, and the lesson ends with the class reading the improved wall aloud as the opening of a shared setting description.
