Year 2 are learning where hot and cold places are in relation to the Equator. On a January morning, the class goes out at ten o'clock to read the playground thermometer, note the cloud and look at what they are wearing, while a partner Year 2 class in Nairobi does the same at one o'clock their time, arranged between the two teachers in advance. Back inside, the teachers host a Microsoft Teams call on school accounts, whole class to whole class, not recorded and with no surnames used, and children take turns at the camera to give their reading and ask questions they prepared, such as 'Do your trees lose their leaves?'. The class adds both readings to a bar chart, finds both cities on the globe, and talks about why one is so much warmer on the same morning.
