Year 10 are practising the 90-word writing task for GCSE French, on a holiday they have been on or would like to go on, covering past, present and future time frames. Students write their first draft without help, then paste it into Copilot on their school account with the teacher's fixed prompt: point out up to five errors, name the type of error (agreement, tense, gender or spelling) and the sentence it is in, but do not correct the French and do not rewrite it. For each flag they check the rule on their grammar sheet or verb tables before changing anything, because a flagged form is sometimes correct, and they highlight every change in yellow. The teacher circulates, answers questions about flags students dispute, and marks the redrafts, comparing them with the first drafts. Students write about places and plans without names or personal details, and this is a practice piece, not assessed work.
