The teacher names the target sound /ai/, as in rain, and shows a Padlet wall on the interactive whiteboard with three columns headed ai, ay and a-e. Each group of four or five shares a tablet, and children take turns, with adult help, to type one word they can hear the sound in, such as train, snail, play or cake. As each word appears on the board, the teacher reads it with the class, underlines the letters making the sound, and drags any word posted in the wrong column to the right one. The session ends with the class reading down each column and spotting that ay usually comes at the end of a word. The wall is set to private, and children post words with no names or photos.
