After a local walk planned under the school's trips policy, each child chooses four public places in the area, such as the library, the park, the war memorial or a row of shops, but never their home, their street or their route to school. On a class Padlet wall in the map format, each child drops a pin on each landmark and adds a photo with no people in it and a 30-second voice recording explaining what the place is used for and who uses it. The wall is set to school login only, and children post under first names only. In the second lesson the class listens to the pins in one part of the map and sorts the places into features that serve homes, work and leisure.
