Desmos number-line drag replacing the washing-line cards
Year 7 are consolidating equivalence between fractions, decimals and percentages. On a Desmos screen, each student drags ten value cards, 3/4, 0.7, 65%, 2/5 and six more, onto a number line from 0 to 1. The line snaps to nothing: students place values exactly where they judge them to sit, so 0.7 landing left of 65% is visible and wrong in a way a multiple-choice question never shows.
A second screen tightens the range to between 0.6 and 0.8 with five new values, which is where the real discrimination happens. The teacher circulates with the dashboard open, sending two students at a time to argue their placements against each other. The department has run this lesson for a decade as a washing line across the room with pegged cards; the screen version lets every student place every card rather than watching nine classmates do it.

Desmos card sort matching linear graphs to equations
Year 8 have plotted linear graphs by table of values and are moving to reading equations directly. The teacher runs the department's card-sort lesson in Desmos Classroom: twelve graph cards and twelve equation cards, dragged into pairs. Three pairs are deliberate near-misses, y=2x+1 sitting beside y=2x-1 and y=-x+3 beside y=x+3, because arguing about the near-misses is where the learning lives.
Students sort alone for ten minutes, then compare with a partner and resolve disagreements by pointing at gradients and intercepts, not by guessing. The teacher's dashboard shows which pairs the class is mismatching and the mini-plenary re-teaches from the most common error. The activity previously existed as laminated cards in a tub, re-cut every September.

Seneca recap assignment before the algebra assessment
Year 9 sit an algebra assessment on Friday. On Tuesday the teacher sets a Seneca assignment covering the four skills on the paper: expanding single brackets, expanding double brackets, factorising into single brackets and factorising quadratics. Students work through explanation screens and typed-answer questions; anything answered wrongly comes back around later in the assignment until it is answered correctly.
The teacher checks the class screen on Thursday morning and finds what teachers always find: double brackets are fine and factorising quadratics is not. Friday's warm-up is rebuilt around the weakest skill, using the same question types the class has just practised. The assignment replaces the revision-guide pages and self-marked exercise the department used to photocopy before every assessment.
