The class visits one local regeneration scheme chosen by the teacher, such as a redeveloped dock or high street, on a half-day visit planned under the school's trips policy. At five waypoints students photograph buildings and land uses with no people in shot and record fieldwork data such as a land-use tally and an environmental quality score. Back in class, over two lessons, each student builds a Google Earth project with a placemark for each waypoint that combines a screenshot of Google Earth's historical imagery from before redevelopment, their own photo and data, and a paragraph judging whether the scheme met its aims for housing, jobs and environment. Projects are shared with the class through school Google accounts, and the final slide gives the student's verdict on who has gained most from the scheme.
