The teacher places one page from Act 3 of The Crucible, where Abigail claims to see a yellow bird in the rafters, in a shared Google Doc, within the school's copying licence. Each student adds a comment on one line or stage direction explaining what they would do as director: where Abigail looks, how the girls move, how Proctor reacts. The teacher reads the comments as they appear, finds the lines where directorial choices differ most, and asks two students with opposite choices to stage their version briefly with volunteers. Students end by writing a short exam-style paragraph on how they would direct one moment, justified by the context of the play.
