The teacher places three extracts of about 500 words each from published criticism of The Great Gatsby in a shared Google Doc, within the school's copying licence. Students read all three and add comments to the lines they find most and least convincing, each with a reason tied to the novel. The teacher follows the comments as they appear, identifies the lines that attract disagreement, and brings the class together on the two most contested. Students end by writing a short paragraph that uses one critic to support their own reading and another to challenge it.
